One of the hardest parts of being a leukemia victim is the uncertainty of not knowing whether doctors will be able to get your cancer into remission and, if they are successful, whether you will later relapse.  Over the past several years scientists have been able to put together broad categories of mutations and to use those broad categories to decide whether to rely only on chemotherapy or to proceed to stem cell transplant if possible.  Now, scientists at Perdue University have announced that they have developed a computer algorithm which predicts with 100% accuracy which patients will achieve remission and with 90% accuracy which ones will suffer a relapse.  The article describing their algorithm can be read >>here<<.  I will update everyone as I get more information.  This is clearly an important breakthrough for all of us in the AML community.
